About Us |
Founded in 1905, Rotary is the world's oldest service club. It is a volunteer organization with over 31,000 clubs and 1.2 million members in more than 165 countries. Rotary unites business and professional leaders worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace throughout the world. Sponsored by the Columbus Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Hilliard began in 1980 as Capital City West Rotary . At that time, there was no Rotary Club in the western part of Columbus! We met at the Howard Johnsons on West Broad Street and had 17 members. In 1992 our Club moved to Hilliard and met at the Mark Pi restaurant. Our move to Hilliard came with the realization that if our club was to grow, we needed more of a community identity. The strategy worked! It took 2 more years before we changed the name to the Rotary Club of Hilliard. In the meantime we moved our meetings to Iaconnos Pizza and when The Heritage Club opened, we were excited to move to our current home. In 1982 our 1st "Great Debate" was held at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. Proceeds from the the first 2 debates ($1800) went to support Junior Achievement Project Business classes in west side schools. The club also provided volunteers to teach the classes. Today, we have approximately 50 members of various professional backgrounds. Locally we are involved in the Hilliard School System with our annual scholarship awards, Junior Achievement and Student of the Month recognition. We are also involved in a yearly clean up of the Darby Creek, one of the nations cleanest river systems. There is always something exciting happening in our club, so please stop by anytime and be our guest! Our weekly lunch meetings are held every Thursday from 12 PM to 1 PM at the Heritage Golf Club in Hilliard. |
